Urubrass: Uruguay's First International Brass Festival
Urubrass began in 2014, founded by three brass students—Germán Crovetto, Diana Earlatz, and Ricardo Arbiza—who wanted to create more opportunities for the brass community in Uruguay.
After a successful first year, Urubrass teamed up with the "Vicente Ascone" Montevideo School of Music in 2015. Together, Urubrass produced concerts in some of the most important venues in the country, such as the Auditorio Nacional Adela Reta, Biblioteca Nacional, Sala Roja in the Montevideo City Hall, among others.
Urubrass is the only festival in Latin America that’s completely free for students, with all concerts open to the public at no cost.
In our latest edition in 2023, we introduced a new itinerant festival format, traveling through different places in Uruguay, including Montevideo, Atlántida, Fray Bentos, and Mercedes. Since 2014, Urubrass have welcomed hundreds of students from Uruguay and across Latin America, along with teachers and educators from Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, the United States, and Spain. Urubrass is also committed to the community, bringing concerts to public spaces and organizing pop-up performances in various locations, such as schools, nursing homes, and regional festivals like Jazz a la Calle.
