WWW : World Weather Web

This project creates a distributed network of personal weather stations that collect and send real-time environmental data(for now, focused on temperature and humidity) to a central server. The server builds a dynamic JSON file from this data. Each station operates independently, forming part of a growing global network of localized weather sensors.

In addition to serving as a meteorological resource for rural areas, the project offers public access to live and historical weather data through a web interface. This interface includes local summaries, trend analysis, alerts, and real-time sensor readings.

The WWW system is also designed for sonic and performative use. The dynamic JSON data will be used as a composition tool. This opens the door to interpreting weather conditions as sound, turning local weather into audible, shareable experiences. I will use this data to control other sonic agents I'm building, such as part of my research on non-invasive human-computer interfaces (NIHCI) for handheld instruments, currently focused on the trombone.

The first station was installed in September 2025 near a lake in Kouvola, Finland. It records temperature and humidity every 10 minutes and is fully operational. More stations are in development.

The weather bridge interface will be released soon. In the meantime, you can visit the interface for the first station by clicking the button below.
